About the site
This site aim in enabling small entrepreneurs in marginalized communities of the Eastern Cape to be able to sell their art and craft online. These rural community lack basic amenities for economic growth and development.All this work is maintained by the Siyakhula project undertaken by the University of Fort Hare Centre of Excellence in joint venture with the Rhodes University Centre of Excellence, which aims at developing and field-testing the prototype of a simple, cost-effective and robust, integrated E-business platform in the rural communities, South Africa.Contacts:

Ilingelihle Art and Craft Shop
The Ilingelihle Project is located in the vicinity of the Xhosa region, Alice, in the Eastern Cape Province. Beneficiaries include fifteen people who craft picnic baskets, cushions, beaded glasses and bed linen. Modern ideas and interpretations were applied to traditional craft techniques, such as strip-sewing, cross-stitch and prairie points. This colourful range won international acclaim at exhibits in San Francisco and New York.
Ngwane Art and Craft Shop
The Ngwane Art and Craft group is located at Dwesa disadvantaged rural community. This group consists of ten members. They produce traditional beaded craft and reeds traditional baskets. The Dwesa community is located on the Wild Coast of the former homeland of Transkei, in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The region features a coastal nature reserve, an attraction to South African tourists.
